Mit einem dritten Update frischt das Entwickler-Team die vor fast einem Jahr erschienene Debian GNU/Linux-Distribution 4.0 (”Etch”) auf. Wie die ersten beiden Aktualisierungen ist Debian 4.0r3 in erster Linie ein Bugfix-Release. Auch werden einige Sicherheitslücken gestopft. Insgesamt soll das System, so das Projekt-Team, an Stabilität gewonnen haben. Neu ist die Unterstützung für O2-Systeme mit Nevada-Prozessoren von SGI. Das proprietäre Paket flashplugin-nonfree haben die Entwickler aufgrund fehlendem Security-Support entfernt.

Bestehende Debian-4.0-Systeme lassen sich mit dem Paketmanagement-Tool aptitude auf den aktuellen Stand bringen. Komplette CD- und DVD-Images sollen in Kürze auf den diversen Debian-Mirrors zum Download bereitstehen.
